When we saw how much it would cost to get Scarlet over to Madeline Island, we quickly decided to stay on the mainland. We still wanted to get some paddling in somewhere though, so after some research we decided to check out Roman Point, where there were supposed to be some sea caves. Our research time is limited by the amount of time we have cell service and how willing we are to look for things on our phone, so we were crossing our fingers that this experience would pan out. We have been pretty fair weather paddlers – smaller lakes and quiet rivers for the most part. Our inflatable paddle boards are easy to haul around because they can pack down into large backpacks, but they ride higher in the water and so we are blown around easier. For Christmas, we gifted ourselves some kayak paddles and this was our first real try-out to see how they would work out.
We started off early in the day while the water was quite calm and we had a pretty easy paddle the whole time we were out. The kayak paddles helped us track instead of zig-zagging all over the place. Clouds came and went as we paddled along the shore, watching the ground next to us get higher and soon some lovely rock formations began to appear.
By the time we were back to our starting point, the wind was starting to kick up and after lunch, we headed inland to a sheltered Lost Creek One to explore a quieter area on our boards.

We spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach enjoying the sun before heading back to Iron River.
